The Hydropower Sustainability Alliance, in partnership with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Albanian Energy Corporation (KESH), welcomes you to a pivotal workshop on the business value of sustainable practices in hydropower, guided by the Hydropower Sustainability Standard.

The Western Balkans' hydropower sector holds significant promise due to the region’s extensive river systems and high rainfall. But, unlocking this potential requires overcoming several hurdles, including environmental concerns, regulatory complexities, and the need for infrastructure modernisation.

As the global energy sector evolves, there's a growing imperative to adopt sustainable practices that ensure the long-term viability and profitability of hydropower. The upcoming workshop in Tirana is a concerted effort to address these challenges and opportunities head-on.

Key Workshop Discussions

  • Navigating challenges: Strategies to overcome the regional hurdles of sustainable hydropower.

  • Exploring opportunities: Leveraging the region's assets for hydropower development.

  • Standards and success: How the Hydropower Sustainability Standard facilitates responsible growth.

By applying the Standard, hydropower projects in the Western Balkans can achieve greater market competitiveness, access international finance, and meet the rising demand for responsible energy.
