Sustainability assessment overview
Located on the river Komo, the Ngoulmendjim Hydrolectric Power Station will provide power to the capital Libreville. Development of the project will help ease Gabon’s tight supply-demand margins, most notably in Libreville, home to half the country’s population.
Ngoulmendjim achieved good practice in 9 out of the 12 environmental, social and governance sustainability topics. Gaps were identified in the Water Quality and Sedimentation, Biodiversity and Invasive Species and Cultural Heritage topics. Additional studies and updates to the Biodiversity Action Plan and cultural heritage management plans are to be undertaken up to 24 months after the assessment.
